Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information Hike Forecast collects, how it is used, and the choices available to you.
What we store on your device
Hike Forecast uses essential local storage on the website and in the native iOS app to remember preferences such as units, theme, saved hikes, and which page or UI mode opens by default. Saved hikes and preferences stay on your device unless a feature explicitly requires sending information to the Hike Forecast service.
What we collect on the server
Hike Forecast collects basic server logs and aggregate usage counters needed to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and understand overall site usage. This includes:
- server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested path, and user-agent) retained for a limited window for security and debugging;
- aggregate counts of how many times the site was loaded and how many times each hike was viewed — no per-user identifiers attached;
- search text and selected hike identifiers when needed to return search results or forecasts;
- emails you send to contact@nofallzonellc.com.
These server-side aggregate counters run on every visit regardless of analytics consent because they do not track individuals — they only increment numbers like "total page views today" and "times Mt Washington was viewed".
Google Analytics
The native Hike Forecast iOS app does not include Google Analytics, advertising SDKs, or third-party tracking SDKs. The Hike Forecast website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. Where consent is required by law (such as the EU/EEA, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein), Google Analytics stays off by default until you allow it. Outside those regions, Google Analytics is on by default and you can turn it off at any time from Settings → Privacy.
If you allow Google Analytics, it may collect usage information such as page views, approximate geography, browser and device information, and interaction events. Hike Forecast does not sell personal information and does not use analytics for advertising personalization. IP addresses are anonymized.
Your choices
- You can allow or decline Google Analytics from the consent banner shown on first visit (if you are in a consent-required region) or from Settings → Privacy at any time.
- You can remove saved hikes or change app preferences from within the native iOS app.
- You can clear all website storage from your browser's settings, which resets website preferences and analytics choices.
- You can clear native app data by deleting the iOS app from your device.
Service providers
Hike Forecast uses service providers such as hosting (Oracle Cloud), analytics (Google), and weather-data providers (NOAA, NWS, MET Norway, ECMWF, DWD) that process data on its behalf or operate public APIs we rely on. Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where those providers operate.
External map links
If you tap an external map link, Hike Forecast opens your selected hike coordinates in the map provider outside the app or website. That provider handles the request under its own privacy policy.
Data subject rights
You may request access, correction, deletion, or restriction related to personal information held by Hike Forecast, subject to applicable law. Requests should be directed to contact@nofallzonellc.com.
Retention
Server logs are retained for a limited operational window. Aggregate usage counters are retained indefinitely because they contain no identifying information. Google Analytics retention follows Google's data retention settings.
Children and emergency use
Hike Forecast is not intended for children under 13, and the service should not be used as the sole basis for emergency, life-safety, or operational decision-making. Always consult official weather services for critical decisions.
Updates
Hike Forecast may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will be posted on this page with any revised terms taking effect when posted.
