Data Sources

• NOAA NOMADS - GFS, HRRR, NAM-Nest, and the GEFS ensemble for run-to-run uncertainty. nomads.ncep.noaa.gov
• NOAA / National Weather Service - Gridded U.S. hourly forecasts used as a lat/lon-accurate proxy in the U.S., territories, and Puerto Rico. weather.gov/documentation/services-web-api
• MET Norway Locationforecast - Norwegian Meteorological Institute's global forecast product, used as a fast lat/lon-accurate baseline for every hike worldwide. api.met.no
• ECMWF Open Data - The European Centre's IFS deterministic open dataset, used for the ECMWF model lane. ecmwf.int/en/forecasts/datasets/open-data
• DWD Open Data - Deutscher Wetterdienst's ICON global and ICON-EU regional models, available as open GRIB2. opendata.dwd.de/weather/nwp
• OpenStreetMap - Trail, route relation, trailhead, and peak geometry contributed by OpenStreetMap contributors and used under the Open Database License. openstreetmap.org/copyright
• Wikidata - Peak identifiers, labels, and notability metadata from Wikidata, available under CC0. wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Licensing
• LongTrailsWiki / OpenLongTrails - Long-distance trail list and metadata used for discovery and matched against OSM route relations. LongTrailsWiki content is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. longtrailswiki.net/wiki/List_of_Long_Trails
• USGS, USFS, NPS, and other public trail and mountain datasets - Public agency route, peak, and trail records normalized into a common hike catalog.
• OpenSkiMap - Open dataset of ski areas worldwide. We import a curated subset as optional summit-style hike locations, toggleable in Settings. openskimap.org

Map and catalog data can contain errors, stale names, duplicated routes, missing access restrictions, or incomplete geometry. Hike Forecast is not affiliated with OpenStreetMap, Wikidata, LongTrailsWiki, OpenLongTrails, OpenSkiMap, or any government agency.

How card forecasts work

Route cards show the next three days of forecast weather, including expected sky conditions and high and low temperatures. Open a route for elevation-aware wind, precipitation, thunderstorm, hourly, and start-window details.

Do not misuse, scrape aggressively, attack, or attempt to disrupt the service. Forecasts, locations, scores, and route metadata may be incomplete, delayed, wrong, or unavailable.
